Safety Data Sheet

Getting an SDS for Isofenphos

A Safety Data Sheet is written for a product, not for a substance: the supplier of the grade you actually buy issues it, so two suppliers of Isofenphos issue two different sheets. That is why there is no single authoritative SDS for a substance to download — what there is, is the job of collecting the sheets for the products you hold and keeping them current as suppliers revise them.

04 · Precautionary statements

Isofenphos precautionary statements

CLP Annex VI assigns 10 precautionary statements to Isofenphos. They are grouped the way a label groups them: what to do before handling, what to do when something has already happened, how to store it and how to dispose of it.

05 · Names in the regulation

Isofenphos name in 23 EU languages

CLP Annex VI Part 3 is published in every language edition of the regulation, and the identification column is written out in each of them. Nothing below is translated by us: each line is the name as that edition prints it. Under Art. 18(2) the substance name from Annex VI is a lawful product identifier, so this is the wording to put on a label going to that market — and where the cell lists several designations, any one of them qualifies.

07 · Health hazards

Isofenphos health hazards and exposure limits

Isofenphos hazard summary

Not irritating to skin and mildly irritating to eyes of rabbits; No evidence of delayed neuropathy in intramuscular injection study with hens; [HSDB] No developmental effects in studies with rats at doses that caused cholinesterase inhibition in mothers; No available studies on human reproductive effects or effects on lactation; [REPROTOX] No clinical or histopathological evidence of delayed neurotoxicity in three studies with hens (at doses up to 2 mg/kg bw for 90 days and single oral doses up to 74 mg/kg bw after antidotal treatment); Observations of delayed neurotoxic effects in one study with hens two weeks following (dosage of 100 mg/kg bw achieved with antidotal treatments); [Reference #2] The average of two baseline respective cholinesterase activity determinations three days apart, with no exposures to enzyme inhibiting pesticides for at least 30 days, is recommended for each worker prior to exposure to cholinesterase inhibitors because of large inter-individual differences in published baseline values. To be established at least once a year. Removal from workplace exposures is recommended until the cholinesterase activity returns to within 20% of baseline. [TLVs and BEIs]

Isofenphos carcinogenicity classification

Cancer Classification: Group E Evidence of Non-carcinogenicity for Humans

Source: Hazardous Substances Data Bank (HSDB)

An IARC group and a CLP classification answer different questions. IARC judges whether the evidence for cancer in humans is strong enough; CLP Annex VI is the legally binding EU classification. A substance can carry one and not the other.

09 · Handling and storage

Isofenphos storage and handling

Isofenphos reactivity

Organothiophosphates, such as ISOFENPHOS, are susceptible to formation of highly toxic and flammable phosphine gas in the presence of strong reducing agents such as hydrides. Partial oxidation by oxidizing agents may result in the release of toxic phosphorus oxides.
