Propargite carcinogenicity classification
Cancer Classification: Group B2 Probable Human Carcinogen

Propargite is classified as a B2 chemical carcinogen based on the appearance of intestinal tumors in test animals. The cancer concern was based on a 2-year cancer bioassay conducted on Sprague Dawley ("SD") rats. In that study, propargite caused fatal tumors of the intestine in both male and female rats. In other studies on mice and Wistar rats, propargite did not exhibit carcinogenicity or mutagenicity.

Propargite reactivity
PROPARGITE is a sulfite ester. As an ester, it will hydrolyze to form sulfur dioxide and alcohols; reaction is more rapid under basic conditions. It may react exothermically with acids to generate alcohols. Heat will be generated by interaction with basic or caustic solutions. Flammable hydrogen is generated by mixing with alkali metals and hydrides.
